MANILA – Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan ordered the relief of six police officers from their posts to give way to a fair investigation on the possible lapses in the handling of the road rage case involving dismissed police officer Wilfredo Gonzales last month.
In a statement on Wednesday, Maranan said three personnel from Galas Police Station (PS 11) and three personnel from the District Traffic Enforcement Unit (DTEU) were relieved and reassigned to the District Personnel Holding and Accounting Section (DPHAS) last Sept. 4.
Maranan on Monday took over the helm of the QCPD, replacing Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III who quit his post amid the ongoing probe.
"Sama sama nating patutunayan na ang pulis QC ay laging respetado ang mamamayan (Together we will prove that the QC police always respects the people). We are here to serve, protect, and uplift our community in every way possible," Maranan said during the turnover rites.
He said respect for citizens, the organization, oneself, and one's family is essential for fostering positive relationships and community safety.
Gonzales is now facing alarm and scandal charges filed by QCPD after he drew and cocked his firearm while confronting a cyclist last Aug. 8.
The incident was captured by a motorist using a video camera of his mobile phone.
The PNP has also demanded that Gonzales return some PHP588,000 worth of separation benefits after he was dismissed from the service due to grave misconduct in 2018, two years after he reached the mandatory retirement age of 56. (PNA)
