SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique - The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) passed a resolution recommending the declaration of a state of calamity in Antique due to the impact of the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Goring during its meeting on Thursday.

PDRRMC chair Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao said the province needs to allocate PHP10 million out of its PHP29 million quick response fund (QRF) to help affected families.

"The Antique PDRRMC unanimously approved Resolution Number 08-2023 during our meeting so that we could provide assistance to the affected families," Cadiao said in an interview.

Bad weather that brought heavy rains and floods to the province has caused PHP3 million worth of damage to houses, data from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) showed.

The losses in agriculture reached PHP106 million and PHP21 million in livestock, while the damage to infrastructure was PHP80 million.

The provincial government will provide shelter materials for 92 families with totally damaged houses at PHP 10,000 per family, and PHP5,000 for each of the 459 families with partially damaged houses.

Other priorities are the provision of food assistance or relief goods for the 7,000 left out families or those who had not received aid during the height of the bad weather on Aug. 28 to 31.

"We will be asking the Antique Provincial Board to tackle the PDRRMC resolution under urgent matters during its session," the governor added.

Antique's Sibalom, San Remigio, and Hamtic towns had already declared a state of calamity.

The Antique Provincial Board will convene on Sept. 11 for its regular session, where the state of calamity declaration is on its agenda. (PNA)
