Resilience-building programs

Amid the successive tropical cyclones, the Office of Civil Defense conducted a planning workshop on "Strengthening Institutions and Empowering Localities Against Disasters and Climate Change" (SHIELD) on Sept. 4 to 5.

SHIELD is a six-year program that seeks to accelerate institutional and community resilience-building efforts against natural hazards and climate change through a multi-stakeholder partnership approach.

It is being implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and through the support of the Australian Embassy in the Philippines.

SHIELD’s program components ae local resiliency, targeting local government units; policy engagement with relevant national government agencies; scientific practices tailored and with accessible information for local resilience action. (PNA)
