University of Cagayan Valley cagers, spikers rule ROTC Games

INDANG, CAVITE – University of Cagayan Valley (UCV) defeated North Western University (NWU), 21-16, to capture the men's 3x3 basketball gold medal in the Philippine Navy division of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Games Luzon leg at Cavite State University (CVSU) - Don Severino delas Alas campus gymnasium here on Saturday.

UCV also grabbed the gold in women's volleyball after hacking out a 25-17, 25-23, 16-25, 24-26, 15-9 win over Batangas State University in the Navy division final.

The UCV spikers, composed of Troy John Narag, Andrei Coballes, Jasper Gapay and Peter Janrie Tungcul, advanced to the championship round after a 14-11 victory over Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation in the crossover semifinal.

The NWU squad comprised of Patrick John Domingo, Jaylord Bartolome, Juan De Marco Sales and Dwayne Jeremiah Gaces prevailed over Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific, 14-12, in the Final Four.

Meanwhile, CVSU outclassed Bicol University, 21-16, to rule the Army division in the tournament co-organized by the Department of National Defense and Commission on Higher Education, with support from the Philippine Sports Commission.

Southern Luzon State University downed Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology, 19-17, in the battle for third place.

Tanauan Institute claimed the gold medal in the Air Force division after pulling off a 21-10 victory over Philippine State College of Aeronautics.

In other final matches, Tanuan Institute beat Fullbright College, 25-17, 25-13, 25-21, in the Air Force division; while Tarlac State University conquered Asian Institute of Science and Technology, 25-20, 25-10, 20-16. (PNA)
