6.4 magnitude quake jolts Davao Occidental town

DAVAO CITY - A magnitude 6.4 earthquake jolted Sarangani town in Davao Occidental on Wednesday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs traced the quake’s epicenter at 66 km. southeast of Sarangani Island in Davao Occidental province.

The earthquake, which hit the area at about 7:21 p.m, was of tectonic origin and was 139 km. deep.

Intensity V was felt in Sarangani town, and Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental; Kiamba, and Malungon in Sarangani; and Digos City in Davao del Sur.

Nearby General Santos City, Koronadal, Tupi, T'Boli, Polomolok, in South Cotabato; Jose Abad Santos, in Davao Occidental; Palimbang, and Esperanza, in Sultan Kudarat felt the tremor at Intensity IV.

Intensity III was felt in this city; Alamada, Banisilan, City of Kidapawan, Magpet, Makilala, M'lang, Matalam, Pigcawayan, and Tulunan, in Cotabato; Kalamansig, Lambayong, President Quirino, Senator Ninoy Aquino, and City of Tacurong, in Sultan Kudarat; Lake Sebu, Tampakan, Santo Niño, and Surallah, in South Cotabato.
