Panay residents thank PBBM for visit, aid

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique –Local leaders in the three provinces of Panay Island said their people were thankful for the assistance the national government has given them during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s visit on Friday.

Marcos visited first the province of Capiz where he distributed a total of PHP1.785 million in seed capital for 1,000 indigent Capiznons.

He was welcomed by Gov. Fredenil Castro and Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas who both were thankful for the assistance given to their constituents, 679 of them were fishermen affected by red tide.

After his visit to Capiz, the President proceeded to Antique where he met with Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda, Governor Rhodora Cadiao, and other local leaders who were also thankful for PHP 10 million worth of government assistance.

In her message, Cadiao said the President’s visit to Antique for the second time meant a lot to them.

Cadiao recalled that the President visited the province when it was devastated by Typhoon Paeng in October last year and brought with him various assistance for the people.

Marcos together with Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian distributed 25 kilos of rice amounting to more than PHP1 million to 1,000 beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) who are in subsistence level, livelihood affected by the African swine fever, and those affected by Typhoon Goring.

The President also released PHP1.4 million seed capital fund to five associations in the towns of Hamtic, Tobias Fornier, Libertad, Tibiao and Lauan engaged in bakery, cattle raising and fattening, rice and fishing supplies under the DSWD’s SLP.

Under the Technical Education, Skills and Development Authority, 246 individuals were granted skills training scholarships in the amount of around PHP1 million.

There were also PHP5 million worth of Lambaklad project turned over to the towns of Libertad and Sebaste and PHP2 million financial grant assistance under the Enhanced Kadiwa given to Libertad.

Libertad acting municipal mayor Jeolito Mateo was thankful for the PHP2 million grant for the establishment of an ice maker at the Libertad Public Market which will aid the fisherfolk to preserve their catch.

“The assistance is a great help for the fisher folks and the people,” Mateo said.

The President also visited Aklan province where he vowed to help farmers and 4Ps beneficiaries.

Marcos distributed 1,000 sacks of rice to the 4Ps recipients from 16 barangays. (PNA With reports from Milagros Barquin and Chantal Jade V. Tolores)
