CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The local government of Iligan City has directed 1,282 local businesses to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in their establishments.

In an interview on Monday afternoon, Iligan City Monitoring and Inspection Task Force chief Romeo Villanura said the number of businesses found to have no CCTV was based on their survey from March to June this year.

The survey also found that at least 43 establishments have broken CCTVs and that only 2,242 businesses were found to be compliant with the city's CCTV law.

Villanura said businesses with a capital of at least PHP500,000 must install CCTVs as part of City Ordinance 09-5478, which was enacted as a safety measure against robbery or theft.

“In Manila, (reports showed) that around 70 (percent) to 80 percent of criminality was solved because of CCTV footage,” he said.

During the business renewal period in January 2024, Villanura said local governments would strictly impose the CCTV ordinance, as required in issuing permits.

Meanwhile, a Business of Creativity Conference will be held in Iligan City on Oct. 25, focusing on the business prospects in digital media, content, and creative process outsourcing.

Villanura said the summit, which aims to showcase the city's creative competencies, forms part of the government's Harnessing Creative Resources for Regional Economic Growth program. (PNA)
