CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, La Union – The Ilocos Police has confiscated PHP10.8 million worth of illegal drugs, specifically about 1.56425 kilos of shabu, from Oct. 24, 2022 until Aug. 15 this year.

Police Regional Office - Ilocos (PRO-1) director Brig. Gen. John Chua, in his speech during the 122nd Police Service Anniversary Celebration Friday, said 838 drug suspects and 80 high-value targets were arrested while 61 drug personalities surrendered during the same period.

PRO-1 likewise recorded 95.38 percent conviction rate in the campaign against illegal drugs; eradicated 13 marijuana plantations, which led to the destruction of PHP44.2 million worth of marijuana plants; and confiscated 1,722.95 grams of marijuana.

Meanwhile, a total of 46,692 medals and commendations were issued and awarded to police personnel.

"Just like in other PROs, we have our share of accomplishments with regard to the morale and welfare of our personnel here in PRO-1," Chua said.

He said they significantly improved frontline police services through the construction of 17 buildings and facilities, including police station, provincial offices, and other essential infrastructure.

He said PRO-1 has invested in Information and Communications Technology infrastructure through the Secured, Mobile, Artificial Intelligence-driven, Real-time Technology Policing program to support the Philippine National Police's Five-Focused Agenda and the government's digitalization goals, he said.

"In addition, we've improved access to the National Police Clearance System, made all computers IT-compliant, achieved a 98.51 percent rating for Communication Technology Utilization, and 100 percent compliance with CCTV Systems. We've also launched a Systematic Messaging and Communication Tracker System to monitor and manage communication effectively," he said.

Chua said the ever-evolving landscape of crime and security threats requires the police to adapt, innovate, and improve strategies.

"We have continued to enhance our skills, embrace new technologies, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity," he added. (PNA)
