ANTIPOLO CITY – The management of Manila Water (MW) is advising its more than 15,000 customers in certain parts of this city to fill up their buckets ahead of a 10-hour water service interruption from 9 p.m. on Tuesday to 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

In an interview on Monday, Raymon Maymay, a communications manager at MW, said the scheduled service interruption is due to repairs to be undertaken on a ruptured main water line at Sitio Langhaya, Barangay dela Paz along Marcos Highway.

The water company expects that about 15,110 households across Barangays Dela Paz, Bagong Nayon, Inarawan, San Luis, San Isidro, and peripheral neighborhoods will be temporarily waterless.

“We are deploying water tankers to the affected communities in case they will be needed. But the service interruption was purposely scheduled in the evening to minimize its impact on our customers. We are also advising residents that once water service resumes, they should first let the water run for several minutes before using it… as the water stored in pipes is likely to be murky,” said Maymay.

Meanwhile, the MW spokesperson said that despite reduced rainfall this year due to El Niño, the water company has sufficient water to supply its customers in Metro Manila’s East Zone, Rizal and select areas in Calabarzon.

Maymay said that MW’s East Bay Water Treatment Plant located in Pakil, Laguna will supply 50 million liters of water to some 300,000 residents of Rizal province when Phase 1 of operations begins in December.

The new facility will be drawing water from Laguna Lake, he added. (PNA)
