Lyceum ends 3-game slide, stops Jose Rizal U in overtime

MANILA – Lyceum banked on Vince Cunanan and Enoch Valdez to beat Jose Rizal University (JRU) in overtime, 99-96, during the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 99 men's basketball at Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday.

Cunanan and Valdez delivered 11 of the team's 12 points in the extra period as the Pirates bounced back from a three-game slump to take solo third at 7-3.

JRU was ahead in the extra period, 93-87, but Lyceum made an 11-3 run, capped by a Valdez triple with 30 seconds remaining.

Cunanan finished with 20 points, including two triples, nine assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block.

Valdez added 14 points to go with eight assists, four rebounds and four steals, while Patrick Montano chipped in 14 points,

The Pirates also avenged their first-round loss to the Heavy Bombers, 88-87, in double overtime.

Joshua Guiab had 21 points, 10 rebounds and two assists for JRU, which slid to fourth with six wins against four losses. (PNA)
