LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-5 in Bicol will dispatch at least 500 personnel to 23 Motorist Assistance Centers (MAC) along the region's national road starting on Tuesday to assist road users during the observation of "Undas" or All Saints and All Souls' Days.

DPWH-Bicol spokesperson, Lucy Castañeda, said in a phone interview on Monday their maintenance engineers will ensure that the national road network and the connecting roads that lead to public and private cemeteries are well-maintained for safe and uninterrupted transport flow.

"DPWH Regional Director Virgilio Eduarte has ordered all 16 district engineering offices to deploy personnel who will man the MAC in different strategic locations in the six provinces in the region," she said.

The centers, she said, will be ready to serve the public from 8 a.m. on Oct. 31 until 5 p.m. on Nov. 2.

"The team, with their specific assignments, is expected to deliver the best possible service to the public. We also encourage those who will avail of the services provided by the assistance centers to fill out satisfactory survey forms to aid in improving DPWH trusts and programs," Castañeda said.

She said a skeletal workforce from the DPWH Maintenance Division will man the office in Barangay Rawis, this city, to "receive reports from field offices and to render emergency services that may be required during the holidays."

The MAC program will be implemented in coordination with the Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police and local government unit officials, Castañeda added. (PNA)
