6.6 magnitude earthquake shakes Indonesia

ANKARA – A 6.6 magnitude earthquake jolted southeastern Indonesia on Thursday, according to the country’s geological agency.

The epicenter of the earthquake was onshore and at a depth of 24 kilometers (14.9 miles) and 15 km (9.4 mi) from Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara province, the agency said on X.

The US Geological Survey measured the strength at magnitude 6.1, saying that the quake occurred 36 km (22 mi) below the surface. The epicenter was 21 km (13 mi) from Kupang on the western side of Timor Island, it added.

There were no immediate reports of casualties. (Anadolu)
