48 nabbed, 35 firearms seized during BSKE gun ban in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY – The Police Regional Office in Caraga (PRO-13) reported the arrest of 48 persons during the gun ban from August 8 to October 31 in the recent Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

PRO-13 data on Friday showed that 35 firearms, 242 ammunition, and two explosives were seized by the police authorities during the period.

A total of 22 bladed weapons were also confiscated, it said.

Of the total number of arrested, 13 were from Agusan del Sur who yielded 10 firearms, 11 from Surigao del Sur with 11 firearms, and eight from Agusan del Norte with seven firearms.

Seven persons were also nabbed in Surigao del Norte in the same period with five firearms, eight in Butuan City with two firearms, and one from Dinagat Islands who yielded a bladed weapon.

“The gun ban to ensure the safety of the recent BSKE was implemented in the whole region with the support of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other security sectors in the government,” Maj. Jennifer Omiter, PRO-13 Information Office chief, said in a phone interview.

She said the intensified campaign against loose firearms will continue to be the priority of PRO-13 after the conclusion of the BSKE. (PNA)
