CEBU CITY – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Friday issued two show cause orders against two motorists whose videos while racing on the busy road in Mandaue City went viral on social media.

Aden Belza, LTO-7 acting chief for operations, ordered the drivers of Kia Picanto (YLE886) and the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) delivery truck to submit a written comment or explanation why their licenses should not be suspended or revoked.

The show cause orders stemmed from a video posted on Facebook showing the car and the delivery truck racing each other while speeding along the North National Highway in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City, on Oct. 31.

The motorists, whose identities have been withheld pending the investigation, were given until Nov. 8 to file their comments.

“Failure to appeal and file the required written comment/explanation in the above-stated date shall be construed as waiver of both your rights to be heard and contravene the allegations against you leaving this office to resolve the case based on the available evidence on hand,” the order read.

Meanwhile, the LTO-7 reported a total of 851 vehicles apprehended during the Oplan Undas 2023 operations from Oct. 16 to Nov. 1.

In a statement, the LTO-7 also reported 14 colorum or unregistered vehicles apprehended in Central Visayas during the same period.

“Because of the long holidays, we expect the influx of passengers by Saturday, November 4. So our team remains on alert in making sure that our riding public will have a safe journey back to their homes,” LTO-7 regional director Glen Galario said. (PNA)
