MANILA – University of Santo Tomas won the men’s and women’s team titles in the Under-20 category of the CEL Logistics, Inc. Weekly Relay Series finals at Philsports track and field stadium in Pasig City on Sunday.
Gerald Mark Casimiro ruled the 400 meters as the men’s team collected nine gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals in the tournament organized by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association headed by Terry Capistrano.
Casimiro clocked 50.53 seconds to beat Adamson University’s Emanuel Morales (51.33s) and Ateneo’s Nash Candelario (51.89s).
Adamson placed second while Perpetual Help was third.
Jeanne Arnibal, a freshman taking up Fitness and Sports Management, claimed victories in the long jump, high jump, triple jump, 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay to lead the women’s team which garnered 17 gold, 12 silver and two bronze medals.
"Actually, hindi po talaga ako makapaniwala sa mga naging resulta ng performance ko lalo na po ngayong araw na alam ko po sa sarili ko na may iniinda po akong sakit sa katawan. Pero sa tingin ko naman na deserve ko ‘tong mga napanalunan ko dahil sa bawat laro ko naman ay ginagawa ko ang lahat ng makakaya ko (I really can't believe the results of my performance, especially today, when I know that I have a physical illness. But I think that I deserve what I won because in every game I do my best)," the 19-year-old from Montalban, Rizal said.
Other winners were Joana Marie Bandal (discus throw), Mailene Pamisaran (100m and 200m), Rashied Faith Burdeos (shot put) and Jash Mae Duhaylungsod (1500m).
Meanwhile, Dasmariñas City Athletics Team and University of the East (UE) were crowned champions in the Under-18 category.
Dasmariñas, coached by Leolito Dinco, dominated the men’s division with 17 gold medals, seven silvers and five bronzes, while UE topped the women’s division with 13 golds, 16 silvers and 12 bronzes. (PNA)
