MANILA – The total value of agriculture and fisheries production declined in the third quarter of the year due to the reductions in crops and fisheries production, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said.

In a report released on Wednesday, the PSA said the value of production in agriculture and fisheries at constant 2018 prices, amounted to PHP412.41 billion, down by 0.3 percent year-on-year.

Crop production which accounted for more than half of the total value of agriculture and fisheries output, contracted by 0.4 percent.

The biggest decline in production was seen in sugarcane (-26.4 percent), potato (-26.0 percent), mongo (21.1 percent), cabbage (17.5 percent), and eggplant (13.9 percent).

Higher value of production, however, was seen in onion, mango, coffee, cacao, pineapple, tomato, banana, palay and corn.

The value of livestock production at PHP66.11 billion was 2.5 percent higher than last year’s same quarter.

"Hog recorded a 3.3 percent improvement in the value of production," the PSA said.

"Poultry with PHP64.89 billion or 15.7 percent share of the total value of production in agriculture and fisheries, expanded by 2.9 percent. Except for duck eggs, all poultry commodities posted increments in the value of production," it added.

For fisheries, the PSA said the value of production, which amounted to PHP58.72 billion, also declined by 6.1 percent.
