MANILA – The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) on Wednesday reported it has provided PHP138 million in medical assistance to 23,192 eligible beneficiaries nationwide through its Medical Assistance Program (MAP) for the month of October.

Citing its latest data, the state lottery agency said the beneficiaries include 2,310 indigents from the National Capital Region who received PHP30.5 million worth of assistance; 5,266 from Northern and Central Luzon who were given PHP33.8 million; and 6,355 from the Southern Tagalog and Bicol Region who received PHP28.2 million.

In the Visayas, 4,874 individuals were provided with PHP24.9 million in medical aid while 4,387 in Mindanao received PHP21.1 million.

The MAP, formerly known as the Individual Medical Assistance Program, augments medical assistance for indigent Filipinos, particularly for hospital confinement, chemotherapy, dialysis and post-transplant medicines.

PCSO general manager Melquiades Robles urged the public to support the agency’s gaming products to raise additional revenue for health initiatives, medical services and other national charities.

Through its mandatory contributions, the PCSO not only helps individuals in need of medical assistance but also provides funds to government institutions. (PNA)
