MANILA – Over 8,000 permanent employees of the city government of Manila are set to get their yearend bonus and cash gift.

During Monday's flag-raising rites, Mayor Honey Lacuna said the city will begin the payout of the benefit within this week.

She also thanked City Treasurer Jasmin Talegon for ensuring that the benefits of the employees are always released on time.

Lacuna earlier requested an early release of the benefit to allow city government workers to do their Christmas preparations early.

“Because of our diligence, if you notice, we are always on time (in releasing) the benefits not only for senior citizens, PWDs (persons with disabilities), single parents, UdM (Universidad de Manila) students, PLM (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila) and Grade 12 students and of course, also in our own home--- the employees of the city of Manila,” she said.

Under the guidelines of the Department of Budget and Management, employees of local government units are also entitled to the yearend bonus which is equivalent to one-month basic salary and a cash gift of PHP5,000, which should be given not earlier than Nov. 15.

"So, you already know. You should be happy today and throughout the week to serve the public or those you encounter every day," she added.

At the same time, Lacuna invited the public, especially the officials and employees and residents to join the city government in kicking off its Christmas celebration this month.

The local chief executive would lead the lighting of the giant Christmas tree and lantern at Kartilya ng Katipunan monument near the city hall at 6 p.m. on Nov. 17. (PNA)
