Mapua beats Perpetual to keep NCAA lead

MANILA – Mapua University demolished the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 69-53, to keep the lead in the NCAA Season 99 men's basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City on Wednesday.

Clint Escarmis finished with 17 points, six steals, four rebounds, four assists, and a block in leading the Cardinals to their 13th win against three losses.

Warren Bonifacio added 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block, while Jopet Soriano chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals for Mapua, which posted a 56-36 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Art Roque finished with 13 points on top of 12 rebounds as Perpetual joined Emilio Aguinaldo College in sixth place at 8-8. Christian Pangan contributed nine points, four rebounds and two blocks; John Abis had seven points, four rebounds and three steals; and Mark Omega made 10 rebounds.

Lyceum of the Philippines has 11 wins and four losses to remain in second place followed by College of Saint Benilde (10-5).

Jose Rizal University stayed in fourth place after pulling off a 77-64 victory over EAC last Tuesday to improve at 10-6, while San Beda University is fifth with an 8-6 card. San Sebastian College of Recoletos (5-10) is seventh followed by Arellano University (2-13) and Letran (2-14). (PNA)
