DA: Sarangani quake damage to fisheries equipment tops P2-M

MANILA – The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported Tuesday that the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that jolted Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Nov. 17 has left PHP2.08 million worth of damage to fisheries equipment.

“These include 44 damaged boats and fishing gears. Aside from fisheries, there are no reported damage and losses yet in the agriculture commodities and infrastructures that could hinder the food supply system," it said in a statement.

The department said it continues to coordinate with concerned local government units, national government agencies, and other disaster risk reduction and management-related offices in assessing and evaluating the impact of the quake and the available resources for interventions and assistance.

It assured the public that the DA - Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center would provide updates regarding the effects of the earthquake on agriculture.

Friday’s quake struck at 4:14 p.m. and had a depth of 72 km. Its epicenter was traced 34 km. northwest of Sarangani Island. (PNA)
