CEBU CITY – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday assured the public that the culprits in a heist at a downtown pawnshop here are not their employees.

This, after two suspects were nabbed when the get-away vehicle they used were intercepted in Barangay Lamacan, Sibonga town two days after the incident.

“We just got back from the area and interviewed witnesses. None heard that they said the suspects were NBI [agents] or introduced themselves as such,” NBI-7 Director Patricio Bernales Jr. said in a statement.

Bernales personally visited the Oro Sugbo Pawnshop and Jewelry along Colon Street to conduct his own inquiry.

“When NBI conducts an operation, we always have markings and aside from identifying ourselves, we would flash our badges,” he said.

His statement was issued to clarify a report that four or five culprits introduced themselves as NBI agents who would serve a warrant of arrest to a security guard prior to the Saturday heist.

On Monday morning, Cebu City Police Office chief Col. Ireneo Dalogdog said his men arrested two suspects as they intercepted the car used by the culprits after robbing Oro Sugbo on Saturday.

The car's plate number was replaced with “Temp. Plate For Registration.”

“We found firearms, grenade, and rifle grenade inside the car. We placed them under police custody,” Dalogdog told reporters.

He said the suspects hail from Argao town, south of Cebu province. (PNA)
