MANILA – Authorities arrested a ranking official of the communist New People's Army (NPA) in an operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) earlier this week.

In a report on Friday, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Maj. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said Jennifer Zamora Abad, alias "Josephine Abad" and "Peping", was nabbed by members of the CIDG Rizal, Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group and military troops at the immigration area of NAIA Terminal 1 in Parañaque City on Nov. 29.

The suspect was supposed to leave the country for Qatar.

Abad has a standing arrest warrant for murder issued by the Lianga, Surigao del Sur Regional Trial Court on Nov. 21, 2019, with no bail recommended.

Caramat said Abad is the regional finance staff of the NPA's Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) who facilitates monthly support and consolidates allowances for members.

He added that the suspect is also in charge of collecting revolutionary taxes in the province of Surigao del Sur and has direct contact with a certain alias “Maria Malaya”, the secretary of the NEMRC.

Abad is now under the custody of the CIDG Rizal Provincial Field Unit. (PNA
