5.3 magnitude earthquake jolts parts of Northern Luzon

LAOAG CITY – A 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Northern Luzon on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said it traced the quake’s epicenter seven kilometers northeast of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan province.

The earthquake, which hit the area at around 2:19 p.m., was of tectonic origin and was 10 kilometers deep.

Nearby Aparri in Cagayan, Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte, and Candon City in Ilocos Sur felt the tremor at Intensity II.

Intensity I was also recorded in Peñablanca and Gonzaga in Cagayan and Laoag City in Ilocos Sur.

While expecting no damage to infrastructures, Phivolcs advised the public to take extra precautions as aftershocks are expected from the earthquake. (PNA)
