ILOILO CITY – The local government here through the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) is calling all its persons with disability (PWD) who are holders of city-issued identification cards to have them installed with security labels and not wait for the February 2024 deadline.
“For now, only a few visit our office. I am worried about the possible influx towards the end,” PDAO head Eleanor Gregorio said on Wednesday.
PDAO has to install a security label for around 15,000 to 16,000 PWD IDs, according to the statement.
Last month, Mayor Jerry Treñas issued Executive Order 157 directing the installation of a security label following reports and actual apprehensions of counterfeit PWD ID cards.
“To abate the production and proliferation of these counterfeit PWD identification cards, there is a need to install a security feature on the same,” part of the EO said.
The installation of the security feature to all valid cards shall be within three months after the release of the order.
Gregorio said after the deadline, the office would announce that all PWD IDs with no security label shall be considered invalid and would not be honored in establishments.
A valid PWD ID entitles the bearer to at least a 20 percent discount when purchasing or availing of selected products and services.
The city-issued PWD ID is valid for five years. (PNA)
