CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Misamis Occidental provincial government on Wednesday extended assistance to the family of a victim in the recent blast at the Mindanao State University (MSU) Main Campus in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, which killed four and injured at least 50 people.

In an interview, provincial information focal person Sheina Nagtalon said Governor Henry Oaminal Sr. extended cash aid of PHP10,000 to the family of the late Riza Ramos Daniel, 49, of Tangub City.

Nagtalon said the local government of Tangub also provided food and cash assistance.

Daniel was declared dead on arrival when she was rushed to the Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City. Her son, El Dritz, was also injured but now declared safe.

Daniel worked in Marawi and stayed with his son, a third-year Computer Studies student at MSU. Both had attended the mass when the blast occurred the morning of Dec. 3.

Another resident in Tangub City, Sheree Mae Asoy, a BS Entrepreneurship student at MSU, is now in a stable condition.

Two other students from the province -  Grace Ann Parojinog of Tudela and Ronald Aranton Tabibina from Lopez Jaena – are
recovering, according to Nagtalon.

Enhanced security

Meanwhile, lawyer Shidik Zed Abantas, MSU Board of Regents secretary, said in an update on Wednesday that the main campus is completely operational with no movement restrictions but "enhanced security protocols" imposed.

"MSU has augmented the checkpoints and added visibility of security forces(in the campus premises)," he said.

Abantas said since the incident, the MSU officials and representatives were in close coordination with other government agencies including the Marawi City and Lanao del Sur provincial governments, as well as the regional Bangsamoro government.

The MSU administration has also coordinated with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office of Lanao del Sur for the distribution of care packages containing rice, canned goods, and hygiene kits to students on campus. (PNA)
