Stocks flat, peso weakens

MANILA – The local stock barometer closed almost flat while the peso depreciated on Monday.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) shed 2.94 points to close at 6,475.50.

All Shares gained 6.59 points to close at 3,416.14.

"Philippine shares finished the session flat, as stocks consolidated at the 6,400 level, with investors making moves ahead before the end of the year," Regina Capital Development Corp. head of sales Luis Limlingan said.

Financials, Industrial and Holding Firms declined, while Services, Mining and Oil, and Property ended the day in the positive territory.

Advancers led decliners at 100 to 77, while 46 shares were unchanged.

Meanwhile, the peso depreciated to 55.87 from Friday's 55.655 finish.

It opened the day at 55.8 from 55.73.

The currency pair traded 55.76 to 55.875, bringing the day's average to 55.819.

Trade volume declined to USD798.7 million from USD846.7 million on Friday. (PNA)
