MANILA – Car sales went up by 7.6 percent in November, according to a report released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).
The joint report released on Tuesday showed that car sales during the month reached 37,683 units, up from 35,037 units in Nov. 2022.
Passenger car sales went up by 7.1 percent to 9,569 units in November from 8,931 units in the same month last year while commercial vehicle sales, likewise, went up by 7.7 percent to 28,114 units from 26,106 units over the same period.
Year-to-date, car sales went up by 23.9 percent to 390,654 units from 315,337 units in the same period in 2022 due to higher sales of both passenger car and commercial vehicle.
CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez said the automotive industry would breach pre-pandemic sales this year.
“We already achieved 92 percent of our 2023 forecast in November. We may even exceed our sales forecast of 423,000 units if sales performance in the last three months is sustained,” Gutierrez said.
He said vehicle sales are being pushed by continued aggressive marketing activities and supply improvement across all brands.
Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. continued to dominate the automotive market with a 46.2 percent share, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 18.4 percent, Ford Motor Company Philippines, Inc. with 7.3 percent, Nissan Philippines, Inc. with 6.3 percent, and Suzuki Philippines, Inc. with 4.3 percent.
