NAGA CITY – A new basketball court at the Liberty Village in Barangay Cararayan donated by the Chinese Embassy in Manila was inaugurated on Friday.

Wu Chenqi, director of the Embassy's Media and Public Relations, said in his message at the event that “this project was first proposed by Mayor Nelson Legacion in December last year.”

“With the joint efforts of the city government, the Barangay Cararayan, including the construction workers, the project has finally come into reality,” Chenqi said.

Legacion said the city is thankful for the donated facility.

“This sports facility is a clear manifestation and expression of such friendship that will benefit primarily the community, not only the young ones but also those who belong to the older generation," he said.

Chenqi, who is a member of the Chinese Embassy basketball team, said sports bring people together.

He is also aware that basketball is one of the Philippines’ favorite sports and was pleased to see the country successfully hold the FIBA Basketball World Cup in August to September. (With a report from Connie Calipay/PNA)
