MANILA – The Board of Investments (BOI) has started collaborating with AgriSpecialist, Inc. (ASI) for the commercialization and promotion of locally-developed biofertilizer products.

In a statement Friday, the BOI highlighted the BIO-N biofertilizer developed by the University of the Philippines Los Baños-National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, which is being produced by ASI in its facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The BOI said that based on their discussion with ASI, Bio-N can increase farmers’ yield by 11 percent.

“Notably, five to six 200-gram sachets of Bio-N can replace two 50-kilogram bags of urea per hectare planted with rice. With the product, farmers can save around PHP10,000 per hectare,” the investment promotion agency said.

ASI’s facility in Laguna is also being eyed to be the first commercial-scale manufacturing plant for biofertilizers.

The planned expansion of its Laguna plant can also supply 100 percent of the country’s biofertilizer requirement.

The BOI and ASI are also looking for potential partners and users for the locally-developed biofertilizer products. (PNA)
