MANILA – In line with the administration’s goal of ensuring a stable supply of electricity across the country, listed power generation firm DMCI Power Corp. (DPC) supplied more electricity to off-grid areas in 2023.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) Monday, its parent company DMCI Holdings Inc. said the DPC sold a total of 454 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity in 2023, 7 percent higher than the 426 GWh sales volume in 2022.
“Our sales have grown steadily for 11 consecutive quarters because of solid demand and our targeted investments in underserved and unserved areas, reflecting our dedication to missionary electrification,” DPC president Antonino Gatdula Jr. said.
The DPC is the country’s largest off-grid energy generation firm, operating in off-grid areas like Masbate, Palawan, and Oriental Mindoro.
The DPC said Palawan overtook Masbate as its largest market. Energy sales in Palawan increased by 12 percent to 200 GWh. It accounted for 44 percent of the total share in sales volume last year.
Energy dispatch in Masbate last year stood at 34 percent or 156 GWh, which also increased by 5 percent.
On the other hand, the DPC’s electricity sales in Oriental Mindoro slipped by 2 percent to 97 GWh with the increase of renewable energy (RE) power plants serving the area. It shared 22 percent of the total sales in 2023.
Meanwhile, DPC chairman Isidro Consunji has bared the company’s plan to invest more on RE.
Consunji told reporters last week that the company is eyeing a 12-megawatt wind power project in Semirara Island and another 4-MW solar project in Masbate.
These projects will be the company’s first RE undertakings.
These additional RE capacity will contribute to the government's goal of achieving 35 percent RE share by 2030, Consunji said. (PNA)
