CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Jamming of cellular phone signals and police visibility will be observed in this city's celebration of the Feast of Black Nazarene on Tuesday.

Col. Wilbur Salaguste, chief of operations and management of the Police Regional Office in the Northern Mindanao Region (PRO-10), gathered Monday some 400 police officers and support units from the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office at Camp Alagar here for a security briefing.

"We must observe maximum tolerance (to the Nazarene devotees during the procession), but we must also be vigilant," he said.

Salaguste told police officers to not only be watchful for possible terrorist activities, but also for petty crimes that might occur during the event.

An estimated 1,000 security forces from the police, military, and volunteer groups are expected to be present at the event. The number includes personnel from the Task Force Oro of the Army's 4th Infantry Division.

The city government and the city's Archdiocese are forecasting some 200,000 devotees from the city and nearby towns to fill the streets as the Black Nazarene is paraded on major thoroughfares. (PNA)
