LEGAZPI CITY – Parents and guardians of profiled child laborers and a disadvantaged worker in two Bicol provinces have received livelihood assistance from the government, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office on Tuesday.

In an interview, DOLE-Bicol spokesperson Johana Vi Gasga said the aid will help the 118 beneficiaries from Camarines Norte and Albay by enhancing livelihood opportunities, addressing unemployment and income disparities, and eliminating child labor.

"The livelihood assistance provided to the 25 beneficiaries from Camarines Norte and 93 from Albay are essential in empowering these families. We are committed to supporting and assisting individuals or families who want a better life and income," Gasga said.

She said PHP2.7 million worth of tools and equipment for various business ventures were distributed in separate ceremonies over the weekend.

The tools and equipment were for food vending, welding, burger stand, laundry service, vulcanizing, and health and nail care services, among others.

Rita Taay Geralla, a 49-year-old beneficiary, thanked DOLE for the "Livelihood Assistance for Parents of Child Laborers, Solo Parents, and Displaced Workers” program, recognizing its significant impact on her family's quality of life.

"Thank you so much DOLE-Bicol. I have been dreaming of having my tools for a long time. This is a big help not only to me but also to the children's education. I promise to take care of and grow the things you gave me," she said. (PNA)
