TACLOBAN CITY – A government contract worker was killed when he traded shots with police officers during a buy-bust operation in Calbiga, Samar Monday night.

Calbiga Police said the suspect, identified as one Oming, had a transaction with a police officer disguised as a buyer at about 10:30 p.m. when he noticed the presence of cops, prompting him to flee.

As the police were chasing him, the suspect drew a firearm and fired it multiple times at the police.

The operatives fired back and hit the suspect dead.

The police recovered several sachets of suspected shabu, PHP3,000 cash, a caliber .45 pistol, and a magazine with seven live ammunition.

The incident happened just weeks after operatives arrested a local traffic enforcer in Calbiga town in a drug bust operation on Dec. 29.

The PNP has intensified its anti-drug operation in Calbiga after receiving reports of a resurgence of illegal drug trade in the area. (PNA)
