BATANGAS CITY – The provincial government here advised the public to remain calm but vigilant following the successive earthquakes that rocked the province recently, the latest of which occurred Monday before dawn.

In an interview, Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas said he has directed the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to monitor seismic developments and heighten preparations.

“Our PDRRMO will diligently monitor every reported incident of earthquake in the province that has been occurring in recent years. We will provide our personnel with all necessary equipment to ensure the safety of the public,” he told the Philippine News Agency on Monday.

There have been no reports of casualty and property damage.

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit Tingloy on Saturday afternoon and was followed by magnitude 3.7 (3:33 a.m.) and 2.4 (3:57 a.m.) Monday in Calatagan.

“We are trying to reach the smallest barangays to conduct damage evaluation and assessment,” Dr. Amor Banuelos-Calayan, head of the Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said in a separate interview.

The PDRRMO conducted Hazard Identification, Risk Analysis and Control assessment in different offices of the provincial government and will continue until Feb. 8.

The analysis includes the identification, assessment and observations of the main hazards or risks within the work environment. (PNA)
