CEBU CITY – Some 76 farmers, musicians, and entertainers here received Tuesday a total of PHP2.5 million worth of livelihood assistance through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Lilia Estillore, DOLE-7 regional director, said Wednesday the amount is now under the fund management of the Cambinocot Multi-Purpose Cooperative, accredited by the agency to canvass and procure the jigs, materials, and equipment to start the livelihood projects of their members.

Estillore said about PHP1.2 million will go to the general merchandising and hog-raising projects of 51 farmer-members of the cooperative while PHP996,184 will be used to buy the equipment and materials needed for the events and services livelihood undertaking of 26 Our Lady of Guadalupe Music Ministry members who are all on-call singers.

Eight Cebu City-based buskers or entertainers got PHP200,000 and will be used to buy their musical instruments, with each busker receiving about PHP30,000.

“For safety and security of the beneficiaries, an insurance coverage good for one year through the GSIS (Government Service Insurance System) is provided,” Estillore told the Philippine News Agency. (PNA)
