SOFIA – The Parliament on Wednesday adopted the annual activity reports of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) for 2020, 2021, and 2022, including financial reports, during its plenary sitting attended by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.

The agency's activity reports were tabled in accordance with the Bulgarian Agency Act. They provided information on its activities, role in the media market, international contacts, and financial situation, as well as the functions of the BTA National Press Club and the agency’s network of regional press clubs, the report of the National Assembly Culture and Media Committee reads.

The report for 2020 is for the last year under the late director general Maxim Minchev. It was adopted with 109 votes in favor, none against, and one abstention.

The 2021 and 2022 reports were presented in a new format in which the content is arranged in tables clearly showing the concrete steps taken in each activity toward each goal. The steps were geared to pursue five strategic goals: freedom, truth, knowledge, community, and memory.

BTA’s reports for 2021 and 2022 were adopted unanimously with 120 votes in favor.

BTA now has correspondents in every regional capital in Bulgaria.

Until recently, outside Bulgaria, the agency had only one correspondent in Brussels, and now it has correspondents and press clubs in Skopje, Ankara, and Bucharest. The plan is to add Belgrade and Athens to the list.

“The opening of a press club in Belgrade has been postponed in order to open one in Odessa. Thanks to the BTA correspondent in Ukraine, there is information about what is happening to the Bulgarians there,” the committee report reads.

The agency aims to have correspondents in places abroad where large Bulgarian communities live, it added.

BTA's financial reports present information on the assets, liabilities, income, and expenses, prepared in accordance with regulatory requirements and accounting policies, and present the agency's asset and financial position. (BTA)
