BACOLOD CITY – Local officials in Negros Occidental are optimistic that the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. still enjoys public support as they underscored the need to unite towards genuine development.

In an interview on Monday, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said that despite the personal observation of certain officials on the Chief Executive’s performance, he believes “many are still also supporting the present administration.”

“In fact, we should always give an incumbent administration the opportunity to do service to the Filipino. We should not give the impression that the country is now divided,” he pointed out.

Lacson said that if there is such an impression, the Philippines will lose business opportunities.

Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, who attended the launch of “Bagong Pilipinas” at Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Sunday, said the President will always have the people’s support as he won via a wide margin.

“A year and a half later, he still has the support. With this new push of ‘Bagong Pilipinas,’ it’s always been growing in terms of having ideology and principle. It’s always been there,” he said.

Benitez, president of the Negros Association of Chief Executives, said the local government leaders he talked agreed that they “should give the President a chance.”

“It’s only been a year and a half, and the expectations are high. We really need to be unified at this point. The President and his entire team are really doing their best to bring development to the country,” Benitez said. The “Bagong Pilipinas” campaign is the overarching theme of the Marcos administration’s brand of governance and leadership, characterized by a principled, accountable, and dependable government.
