MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Tuesday it is ready to assist more than 300 employees of CNN Philippines and Sky Cable that would be displaced due to their closure.
"We can offer them assistance in ensuring that benefits due them as a result of their separation are given to them, if not yet paid," Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said in a phone interview.
Laguesma noted that other assistance is also available to the affected employees.
"We can make available to displaced workers job facilitation our TUPAD (Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers) program and DOLE Integrated Livelihood program," he added.
On the other hand, a labor group expressed concern over the closure of the two companies at the start of the year.
In a statement, the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) also called on the government to adopt measures that could help prevent job losses during corporate restructuring processes.
CNN Philippines will cease operations on Wednesday due to financial losses, affecting 300 employees.
On the other hand, Sky Cable will discontinue its operations effective Feb. 27, displacing 22 employees. (PNA)
