Rombaon, Krogg dominate road races

MANILA – Avegail Rombaon and Mathilda Krogg of Philippine Navy-Standard Insurance pocketed the women’s road race titles in the PhilCycling National Championships for Road 2024 in Cavite and Batangas on Thursday.

Rombaon, the MTB bronze medalist at the 2019 SEA Games, registered the best time of four hours, 22 minutes, and 03.69 seconds to dethrone Jermyn Prado in the 134-km Women Elite race that started and ended at the Praying Hands in Tagaytay City.

Prado finished second (4:23:21.83) followed by Maura de los Reyes (4:28:33.77) in the race organized by PhilCycling and calendared by the UCI.

Krogg clocked 4:24:22.40 to rule the women under-23 category. Wenizah Claire Vinoya crossed the finish line 26 seconds later and Raven Joy Valdez more than a minute later.

Meanwhile, Kim Bonilla triumphed in the Women Junior race with a time of 1:08.73. It was her third title after dominating the criterium and time trial.

Rosalie de la Cruz (1:12:31.73) and Jazmine Kaye Vinoya (1:27:57.97) placed second and third, respectively.

The top three finishers in the Men Junior road race were Mark Baruelo (2:02:23.13), Carl Ivan Alagano (2:02:32.76) and Charles Ferrer (2:02:44.73).
