CEBU CITY – Central Visayas police will produce officers proficient in cybercrime prevention as online scam cases continue to rise.

Lt. General Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7, said on Monday that they are eyeing to assign at least two “cyber cops” in every station.

The cops, trained specifically on Republic Act 10175 or the CyberCrime Prevention Act of 2012, will be assigned to handle cybercrime investigation and filing of cases against online scammers victimizing locals, Pelare said.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Central Visayas sent out trainers to upgrade technical expertise in investigating cyber offenses.

Pelare said the PNP’s Anti-Cyber Crime Unit in the region would focus on larger cyber offenses that require thorough investigation.

“We have upgraded our capability in fighting crimes against anyone using the Internet,” he added. (PNA)
