DOST research specialists lead 2023 CSC Pagasa Award winners

MANILA – The Civil Service Commission (CSC) on Tuesday announced the roster of recipients of the Pagasa Award, one of the categories of the 2023 Search for Outstanding Government Workers.

Leading the awardees was the Food Processing and Innovation Center (FPIC) of Davao, which generated numerous product concepts and prototypes, registered utility models, and served diverse customers including students, researchers, faculty, and food processors, according to a news release by the CSC.

FPIC-Davao is the first Regional Food Innovation Center established in the Philippines through the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) High Impact Technology Solutions program.

“Their collaborative efforts with multiple sectors have encouraged competition, inspired more students to pursue careers in food technology, and contributed to the advancement of the food processing industry in the Davao Region,” CSC chairperson Karlo Nograles said.

In recognition of their remarkable achievements, DOST XI Supervising Science Research Specialist and FPIC-Davao team leader Mirasol Domingo, Senior Science Research Specialists Sheryl Napoco and Dorothy Joy Candilas, and Chief Science Research Specialist Fred Liza will receive the 2023 CSC Pagasa Award at Malacañan Palace in Manila on Wednesday.

Two other groups will also receive the award -- the DOST - Philippine Nuclear Research Institute Honey team composed of Scientist I/Supervising Science Research Specialist Angel Bautista VII and Senior Science Research Specialist Norman Mendoza.

 The other is the Palayamanan Project team from Bulacan Agricultural State College composed of Associate Professor V and team leader Imelda Navarro, and Associate Professors Imee Esguerra, Jennifer Guevarra, Anthony Ortega, and Rhuelyn Ballaran.

For the individual category, the winners were Education Program Supervisor Venus Alboruto of the Department of Education Schools Division of Surigao City; Senior Science Research Specialist Vanessa Joy Calderon of Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office II in Tuguegarao City; Associate Professor V Drolly Claravall of Isabela State University – Ilagan City Campus; Agricultural Center Chief IV Ericson Dela Cruz of Philippine Carabao Center in Muñoz City; Director III Ronnalee Orteza of DOST Philippine Science High School System - Ilocos Region Campus in San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur; and Agriculturist II Relvin Paragua of DA Regional Office IV in Iloilo City.

The CSC Pagasa Award is conferred on an individual or group of individuals for outstanding contribution resulting from an innovative idea or outstanding performance which directly benefit more than one department of the government, pursuant to Executive Order No. 292, s. 1987.
