COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has reached out to Bangsamoro people affected by floods and landslides in the Davao Region and distributed food and non-food items in the past two days.

In a statement Tuesday, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) said about 2,116 Bangsamoro families affected by calamities in the region have received relief goods during the distribution on Feb. 18 and 19.

Jidday Buat Lucman, MSSD information officer, said each validated Moro family received 25 kg. of rice and food packs.

A total of 1,662 Bangsamoro families in Davao City also received relief goods.

Under the Bangsamoro Organic Law, the BARMM is mandated to assist Bangsamoro communities outside the region, in coordination with the local government units where the communities are located.

In another development, the MSSD-BARMM also conducted cash payouts under the Social Pension (SocPen) Program to 1,032 indigent senior citizens in Parang, Sulu on Monday.

Each senior citizen received PHP3,000 in cash assistance, the MSSD said.

The SocPen aims to provide monthly stipends to senior citizens who belong to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable sectors to support their daily needs and prevent them from being neglected and abused. (PNA)
