DAVAO CITY – The new PHP38 daily wage hike for minimum wage workers in Davao Region will start rolling out on March 6, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-11) said Tuesday.

In a statement, the RTWPB-11 said the first of the two tranches of wage increases under Wage Order No. RBXI-22 in the amount of PHP19 per day "shall be upon effectivity of the wage order" on March 6.

“The new minimum wage rate for workers in the non-agriculture sector shall be PHP462 per day while for the agriculture sector workers, it shall be PHP457 per day,” it said.

The second tranche in the amount of PHP19 daily will take effect on Sept. 1 this year, bringing the new minimum wage rate for workers in the non-agriculture sector to PHP481 per day and PHP476 per day for the agriculture sector workers.

The RTWPB–11 also granted a wage increase in the minimum wage of domestic workers under Wage Order No. RBXI-DW-03 to take effect on March 6.

From the current PHP4,500 unvaried monthly minimum wage rate across the region, the new minimum wage rates shall be PHP6,000 per month for domestic workers in chartered cities and first-class municipalities while PHP5,000 per month for domestic workers in other municipalities.

Randolf Pensoy, the regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment and concurrent RTWPB–11 chairperson, said the new salary increases take into account the prevailing socioeconomic conditions in the region, factoring in the consumer price index and the poverty threshold data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

“Following the complete rollout of tranches, the minimum wage in the Davao Region is set to span from PHP476 to PHP481, safeguarding more than 100,000 minimum wage earners in private establishments, as well as almost 65,000 domestic workers in the region,” he said. (PNA)
