MANILA – The office of Speaker Martin G. Romualdez and Tingog Party-list, led by Rep. Yedda Romualdez, on Wednesday distributed 50 brand new fishing boats and cash assistance to Navotas fishermen.

Romualdez and his wife personally funded the initiative as part of their efforts to empower and uplift the lives of residents whose livelihoods are deeply entwined with the fishing industry.

Some 1,000 fishers received PHP5,000 under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.

In her speech, Yedda expressed gratitude towards the partnership with local officials and recognized the hard work and dedication of Navotas fishermen.

"Sa ating mga minamahal na mangingisda, kayo po ang tunay na yaman ng Navotas. Sa inyong patuloy na pagsusumikap sa araw-araw, asahan niyo na laging nakaagapay ang Tingog Party-list (To our beloved fishermen, you are the true wealth of Navotas. As you continue to work hard every ay, expect the Tingong Party-list to always be with you),” she said.

The attendees of the ceremonial turnover of fishing boats also enjoyed food packs and got the chance to win various raffle prizes, including a motorcycle and tuk-tuk (auto rickshaw).

Navotas Rep. Tobias “Toby” Reynald M. Tiangco, Mayor John Reynald “John Rey” M. Tiangco, Vice-Mayor Tito M. Sanchez, city councilors, and barangay captains witnessed the turnover ceremony at the Navotas Sports Complex. (PNA)
