MANILA – The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Monday announced that maritime patrol over the Northern Luzon seaboard on Feb. 24 did not result in any significant sighting or activities.

"Executing the mission with a C-295 aircraft, the PAF covered key areas, including Itbayat, Sabtang, and Babuyan Islands. No significant activities or sightings were reported during the monitoring of these areas," PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo said in a statement.

She added that the deployment of C-295 aircraft is also in support to the Northern Luzon Command's maritime patrol operations in its area of jurisdiction.

Castillo said the PAF is committed to working closely with the other branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other unified commands to secure the country's vast maritime territories.

"The PAF remains committed to ensuring a coordinated response and comprehensive security along the country's maritime borders," she said.

Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. earlier called for more military presence in the country's northernmost province of Batanes.

The Naval Forces Northern Luzon earlier said Teodoro ordered a higher "operational tempo" for the AFP starting this year. (PNA)
