MANILA – The Marikina City government is looking into two to three persons of interest as behind the hacking of its official Facebook page, Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said on Wednesday.

In an interview, Teodoro said these persons are not insiders but might be "formerly connected to the city government". He did not give further details.

“It could be to disrupt the services provided by Marikina. It could also be because the next polls are just around the corner but we do not want to speculate for now because we are focused on putting a new page for the PIO (Public Information Office) to ensure continuity of services, as well as for information dissemination purposes. It's just frustrating because the page has a big membership," Teodoro said in Filipino.

Teodoro said they have coordinated with the Philippine National Police-Anti Cybercrime Group and submitted documents to file the necessary cases against the suspects behind the hacking.

The original Marikina PIO Facebook page has remained inaccessible since Feb. 21.

On the same day, the Facebook page of the mayor's wife, 1st District Rep. Marjorie Ann Teodoro, was also hacked.

Meanwhile, the PIO has now created a new Facebook page "Taga-Marikina Ako" for the dissemination of announcements and information related to services provided by the local government. (PNA)
