MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Rogelio Quevedo as commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), Malacañang announced Thursday.

Quevedo’s appointment was announced by the Presidential Communications Office in a Facebook post.

Before his new appointment, Quevedo served as the government corporate counsel whose primary duty was to safeguard the legal interests of government-owned or -controlled corporations.

The PCGG, which is under the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) supervision, serves as the anti-corruption agency. It is designated to investigate graft and corruption cases of public officials and institute measures to prevent unlawful practices in government.

On Wednesday, the DOJ reported that the PCGG last year remitted to the Bureau of Treasury a total of PHP2.6 billion, the “highest collection in five years.”

The PCGG’s remittance last year brought the commission’s total cash and non-cash recovery to PHP280 billion, the DOJ said. (PNA)
