Police ops net over P9.5-M shabu in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY – Police and anti-narcotics authorities confiscated some PHP9.5 million worth of shabu in operations since March 1, the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) reported Tuesday.

On Monday, a buy-bust in Barangay Bancasi here resulted in the arrest of two high-value individuals (HVIs) and the confiscation of more than a kilo of shabu worth PHP6.8 million.

PRO-13 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) identified the suspects only as “Jun”, 44, of Barangay Diego Silang, Butuan City; and “Noy”, 47, of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur.

On March 1, an anti-illegal drug operation in Surigao City resulted in the arrest of a certain “Lim”, 51, and the seizure of 21 sachets of shabu, weighing 352 grams valued at some PHP2.4 million.

On the same day, anti-illegal drug operations in Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, and Surigao del Sur resulted in the arrest of four persons and the confiscation of over 60 grams of shabu worth PHP414,120.

“We will file airtight charges against these personalities for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002," PRO-13 director, Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft, said in a statement Tuesday.

70 wanted persons falls

Meanwhile, Kraft also announced the arrest of 70 wanted persons during operations since March 1.

Of the total number, 20 wanted persons were collared by the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO), 14 by the Butuan police, 12 each by the Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Sur PPOs, 11 by the Agusan del Sur PPO, and one by the Regional Intelligence Division.

PRO-13 also reported the confiscation of more than PHP108,000 worth of illegally gathered forest products and the arrest of five suspects during operations last week in Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands. (PNA)
