Bicol cops nab 133 drug offenders, seize P28.4-M illegal drugs in Feb.

LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) arrested 133 drug personalities and seized PHP28.4 million worth of illegal drugs during 126 drug operations by various police units in the region in February this year.

In a report on Tuesday, Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, PRO5 spokesperson, said the seized illegal drugs consisted of 17.2 kilograms of marijuana and 3.8 kg. of shabu.

"At least 218 cases were filed against these arrested drug violators. It is our commitment to enforce the law and promote a drug-free society," Calubaquib said.

Among all the provinces, Camarines Norte recorded the highest amount of seized drugs at PHP15.8 million; followed by Camarines Sur, PHP5.4 million; Albay, PHP3.19 million; Naga City, PHP1.98 million; Masbate, PHP1.05 million; Sorsogon, PHP901,095. and Catanduanes, PHP1,700.

In a statement, PRO5 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said all operations adhere strictly to legal protocols and regulations, ensuring that aggressive enforcement is within the bounds of the law.

He said aside from law enforcement and operations, there must be robust support for reform, awareness, and education programs.

"The unit will intensify its efforts to engage with schools, barangays, and establishments, promoting dialogue and implementing drug education programs," he added. (PNA)
