MANILA – A Chinese national was arrested after an armed confrontation with law enforcers in Taguig City.

PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) Director Brig. Gen. Cosme Abrenica identified the suspect as Zhao Yuzi, who was injured after a shootout with police officers along 31st Avenue in posh Bonifacio Global City (BGC) at around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

“’Yung mga warrant of arrest na kinakaharap nya ay (The warrants of arrest against him are for) crime of other deceit, crime of resistance and disobedience of an agent or a person in authority and unjust vexation... noong isini-serve na ang warrant of arrest, na notice ng pulis immediately tumakbo sya at pinaputukan ang ating kapulisan (during the service of the warrant of arrest, the police noticed that he ran immediately and he opened fire at the police),” Abrenica told reporters in a press conference held at Camp Crame in Quezon City Tuesday.

The suspect attempted to escape on a sport utility vehicle, thus the ensuing armed encounter as cops ran after him.

Zhao was captured at the corner of Zamora Circle and the BGC bus depot. He was taken to a hospital afterwards.

Investigation showed that Zhao was involved in the abduction of a fellow Chinese in December 2023.

Abrenica said the suspect would also face charges of attempted homicide and illegal possession of firearms.

The police would also look into his weapons’ permits and licenses and employment record. (PNA)
